canon source/general: I am not playing zee from any specific canon; she is an amalgamation of the character as a whole with key points consistent. her father giovanni zatara was killed trying to battle the great darkness in a botched seance that involved herself and john constantine, with others. she has been a member of the justice league, though currently she is a reserve member (largely due to her actions during identity crisis). during the events of blackest night she was forced to kill her reanimated black lantern father which weighs heavily on her still. zatanna primarily resides in las vegas where she headlines a popular magic show but also has a townhouse in san francisco as well as her family manor shadowcrest (location varies). she lives a celebrity life but has only a few close friends. most comic icons I am using are from the webseries zatanna and the ripper; irl pb is emmy rossum.

physical/mental Contact: ✓ totally fine including mindreading.

flirting/affection: ✓ she is very likely to flirt and flirt back

fighting: ✓ zee is not generally a physical fighter and uses magic. she is trained to fight hand-to-hand if necessary. in general I do not enjoy writing detailed fights so keeping them vague and short will help keep my interest.

powers / abilites

magic: zatanna is one of the most powerful magicians in the world and has mastery over both mystical and cosmic forces. typically she uses verbal enchantments but it very capable of performing magic by nonverbal means or the written word. zatanna's particular logomancy requires her to speak spells backwards. she is capable of: atmokinesis, chronokinesis, dimensional travel, disintegration, elemental control, eldritch blasts, energy construct creation, flight, force fields, gravikinesis, healing, invisibility, molecular reconstruction, telekinesis, telepathy, teleportation, clairvoyance, summoning magic, hellfire manipulation, and black magic. generally there is a cost to magic and the cost cannot outweigh her own life force or magical supply.

occultism: zatanna has intimate knowledge of innumerable spells and occult objects and history.

prestidigitation: not only can she perform actual magic, zatanna is an expert in slight-of-hand as a stage magician. she also is great at lockpicking and escapology!

hand to hand combat: if magic isn't an option, she is able to handle herself in hand-to-hand combat.

weaknesses: drain - magic requires energy and zatanna does not possess an infinite well of magical energy. more advanced spells, such as soul transporation, dimensional travel, and regeneration, require a great deal of energy that she sometimes does not have at her disposal. zatanna must rest between uses of such powerful spells and must do the same after casting many lesser spells as well. additionally to control a person through mental domination takes a great deal of concentration, as her will must be greater than the person for whom the spell is intended.

mystical awareness - the nature of zatanna’s power dictates that she is sensitive to all things mystical. while this can come in handy, when there are baddies clawing at the cosmic continuum zatanna will feel it. depending on the calamity, this awareness can be incapacitating.

alignment - magic can be used for good and for evil and zatanna has concentrated her life to do good and protect the earth against harmful magical forces. while she has the ability to perform spells that can strip individuals of their free will or wipe select memories, she is reluctant to do so because of the violation of rights of the individual. she has made this mistake before to disastrous consequences.

preferences: zee is bisexual with a stronger preference for men. she will freely flirt with men and women but she isn't necessarily quick to make things physical (sex memes can be an exception). the nature of her job(s) means travel and a lot of complications that really aren't conducive for relationships working. it's tough out there. she has been in poly relationships before as well but isn't exactly looking for that. for shipping with crosscanon or others I do prefer some build-up with psls or other means. memes I'm more lenient on.
